Brief Introduction

Since 2010, Fudan Law School has launched the LL.M. Program in Chinese Business Law instructed in English for foreign lawyers, executives, students, and professional engaging in international trade and/or interested in Chinese business and financial law. It is designed to take advantage of Shanghai's position as a center of business and finance, including major courses in commercial law and financial law among others. Through the two-year study and research, students can develop a comprehensive understanding of Chinese business and financial legal system so that they can be independently engaged in the financial or legal practice and theory study.

This is a two-year program consisting of one-year course work and one-year dissertation.

Application Requirements

1) Language Requirements: Applicants whose native language is not English should provide a TOEFL (iBT) score of 90 or above/an IETLS score of 6.5 or above/the equivalent on another standardized English language test such as the Cambridge English exam. Applicants scoring below or who have not taken an English language exam may request an interview with the admissions staff to obtain a waiver.

2) Degree and Major Requirements: Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary passport, be in good health. Bachelor’s degree or above. Students from all major backgrounds are eligible to apply for the LL.M. Program in Chinese Business Law.

Application Documents

1. A photocopy of the passport

Photocopy of valid passport identification page. Passport must be an ordinary one and be valid until Sep. 30, 2021. Applicants currently residing in China also need to provide a copy of the page containing a valid visa or residence permit.

2. Diploma of the highest degree conferred or proof of impending graduation (for applicants in their final year of study).

The document must be original or notarized copy, and should be attached with notarized Chinese or English translation if the original one is not in Chinese or English.

3. Transcripts of the highest degree conferred.

4. Two recommendation letters

The referee must be professor, associate professor. The letter should be in Chinese or English and include the referee’s signature and contact information. If the letters cannot be uploaded online, applicant may contact the referee to send the scanned letter via email to the school or department applied.

5. Personal statement

It requires above 1000 words for master applicants and above 1500 words for PhD applicants. The language should align with the one to be taught with. The content should include (but not limited to) study and work experience, academic achievement, expected research proposal, and career plan after graduation, etc.

6. TOEFL or IELTS or another standardized English language test report (if the native language of the applicant is not English). 7. Completely filled Foreigner Physical Examination Form and Certificate of No Criminal Record in Chinese or English. (for applicants who apply for the scholarships only)

8. Academic writing sample if applicable (Optional) 

1. Application fee (non-refundable): RMB 800

2. Tuition: RMB 160.000/2 years. Students need to pay half the tuition (80,000 Yuan) before the beginning of the first semester, and the other half before the beginning of the second semester.
