Course overview

The degree is suitable for those seeking positions in the finance and investment industry. The programme is based around the three main markets of investment activities - equity markets, fixed income markets, and derivative markets. The course contents are led by cutting-edge academic research and practice-based case studies that focus on both domestic and international financial markets.

Participants in the MSc Finance and Investment programme can also use the dissertation component to concentrate in-depth on a finance and investment topic according to individual interests and career requirements.

Course structure

The structure of the MSc in Finance and Investment programme is modular, with individual modules each having weighting of 20 credits.

One credit represents 10 hours of student work, meaning that a 20 credit module represents 200 hours of study including formal teaching, independent study, revision, and the preparation of assessments.

The MSc degree requires the successful completion of 180 credits, 120 of which are taught modules, and 60 credits a finance related dissertation. 

All students undertake core modules relating to finance. The remaining modules offer a choice of electives that allow the student to focus upon advanced finance and management modules that are most closely associated with his/her career aspirations.

Careers and further study

Graduates will have the opportunity to work in mainstream finance and investment industries such as banking, securities, futures, insurance, public/ private equity, accounting firms, and asset appraisal. They can also enter enterprises or government sectors and engage in areas such as corporate finance, investment and financing, government guidance fund, or financial accounting.

According to the latest Careers and Employability Annual Report, 92.4% of graduates in the MSc Finance and Investment programme head to work directly, the most of them work for banks and securities companies.

Qualifications:

1. High school graduate and above.

2. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC.".

- For English-Taught program: IELTS with an overall score of 5.5-6.5 or TOEFL IBT 85 (subject to each university)

- For Chinese-Taught program: HSK 4-6 (level and minimum score are subject to each major and university)

4. High school diploma (for bachelor degree applicants) and Bachelor or Master diploma (for master and doctoral degree applicants), students who hasn’t graduated should provide an official statement from high school or university as a guarantee of the graduation date (Pre-Graduation Statement). 5. 6. 2 (two) recommendation letters from your teachers in high school (for bachelor degree applicants) and two university professors (for master and doctoral degree applicants) along with letterhead, stamp from the school, and sign. Please also include the email and phone number of the recommenders.
