Overview
The Department of Hydraulic Engineering (DHE) was founded in 1952. It now comprises one state key laboratory (State Key Laboratory of Hydroscience and Engineering), and six institutes, i.e., the Institute of Hydraulic Structures Engineering, the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, the Institute of Hydrology and Water Resources, the Institute of River Research, the Institute of Hydraulic Research, and the Institute of Project Management and Construction Engineering. DHE offers doctoral programs for applicants devoted to research and pursuit of a career in the fields of water science and engineering. The master programs aim at equipping students with solid theoretical and systematic professional knowledge and the ability to tackle issues in water science and engineering.
Major
The graduate courses of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering cover the primary discipline of hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering research of the primary discipline of civil engineering, and construction project management research of the primary discipline of management science and engineering. The graduates are recruited for the primary disciplines with research directions on hydrology and water resources, hydraulics and fluvial dynamics, coastal ports and offshore engineering, hydraulic structure engineering, hydraulic and hydropower engineering, geotechnical engineering, and engineering project management. Doctoral candidates are recruited also according to the primary disciplines whose research directions cover water and sediment science and river engineering, hydrology and water resources, hydraulics and water environment, flood and disaster prevention and mitigation, port fairway and offshore engineering, rock-soil mechanics and engineering, concrete materials and structure, hydraulic hub engineering, hydraulic engineering technology and management, hydraulic ination and digital hydraulic engineering, and construction project management. In recent years, around 45 doctoral candidates and 40-50 graduates are enrolled from multiple channels, such as exam-free recommendation by Tsinghua University, exam-free recommendation by other universities, and graduate students entrance examination.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma and above.
2. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC ".
3. Physically and mentally healthy.
4. Applicants under 18 years old (Per September) should provide a letter of guarantee for their guardian in China (notarization required).

- English Taught: IELTS with an overall score of 5.5/6.0 or TOEFL IBT 85 (different for each university)
- Chinese Taught: HSK 4-6 (levels and minimum scores are different for each major and university)

6. 2 (two) recommendation letters from your teachers in high school (for bachelor degree) and two university professors (for master and doctoral degrees) along with letterhead and stamp from the school. Please also include the email and phone number of recommenders.

- Documents number 4-6 above, MUST be translated into English / Mandarin, and legalized by the school or you could use the services of a sworn translator.
