The program of Industrial Engineering in Tianjin University develops in parallel with the cutting-edge, theory and methods of industrial engineering. The program is designed to cultivate senior industrial engineering and management talents with basic knowledge and skills of broad engineering technology, management, humanity, social sciences. The IE graduates understand solid theory and methods of economics, management and system engineering, and they have strong mathematical ability and Industrial Engineering skills.
Program Features
IE program is inter-disciplinary. Industrial engineering program is designed to cultivate students with profound understanding of modern engineering technology, manufacturing and service system. The students can apply contemporary management knowledge and industrial engineering methods to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis for system design, implementation, optimization and control. The program integrates IE theory with practice. In recent years, IE department has collaborated with FAW, Motorola, Dongfeng Automobile, Media, Foxconn, Huawei and other companies, and established long term collaborations. IE department is active in international cooperation It has links with the IE departments of many famous universities in America, Canada, Australia, HK, Taiwan and other regions. Outstanding students are provided with opportunities to study abroad as the exchange students. And the department focuses on practical education to build up students’ ability of finding and solving problems. The department has a comprehensive IE lab where students have access to conduct experiments related to systems simulations, ergonomics, logistics, production line design and quality control.

Faculty
The department currently has 16 faculty members including 6 full professors, 8 associate professors and 2 lecturer. All faculties hold PhDs and 70% faculty members have overseas studying or working experiences.
Employment
The graduates can be employed in state administrative departments, public institutions, institutes of scientific research, business enterprises to engage in planning, design, evaluation and innovation work. They can also conduct teaching and scientific research in universities and colleges. In recent years, many IE graduates were recruited by large companies such as Huawei, ZTE, Siemens, Foxconn, Sany Heavy Industry, Tianjin Bank.
Excellent Student
Cui Mao (student of industrial engineering of the year 2009 ), winner of 2010 top ten outstanding youths in Tianjin, and winner of Hundred Outstanding Elites from 2010—2011. Through four-year learning of theory and method of industrial engineering, he is able to deeply detect the management problems in enterprises especially manufacturing enterprises, and gives corresponding countermeasures using IE theory and methods.
General Qualifications
- Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport and must comply with the relevant regulations stipulated in "Document No. 12 (2020) of the Ministry of Education of the PRC."
- Must be in good physical and mental health.
- Applicants who will be under 18 years of age (as of September) must provide a notarized Letter of Guarantee from their designated guardian in China.

- English Taught: IELTS with an overall score of 5.5/6.0 or TOEFL iBT 85 (requirements vary by university).
- Chinese Taught: HSK 4–6 (levels and minimum scores vary by major and university).
- Academic Diplomas: High School Diploma (for Bachelor's Degree applicants) or Bachelor's/Master's Diploma (for Master's/Doctoral Degree applicants). - Documents 4 through 6 MUST be translated into English or Mandarin and officially legalized by the issuing institution. Alternatively, the services of a sworn translator may be utilized.
