PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

In the study tour you will go outside class and enjoy the charm of Chinese culture by seeing the liberal and architectural art treasures of China with a civilization of 5000 years and watching Chinese traditional opera and acrobatics.

 

【Introduction to the program】

The annual Summer Short-Term Chinese Language Program of BNU is opening now! Hierarchical teaching and teaching in small classes are the characteristics of our program. Highly experienced and fully professional teachers of the College of Chinese Language and Culture (CCLC) of BNU will help the students in the short-term program rapidly improve their communicative capability. The program applies a student-centered methodology which combines teaching and practising as well as entertaining that can increase the interests of learning Chinese as well as communicative capability.

I. Duration of the program

Class A: July 1st – July 19th (Three weeks)

Class B: July 1st – July 26th (Four weeks)

Class C: July 1st – August 16th (Seven weeks)

Class D: July 1st – August 23rd (Eight weeks)

Class E: July 29th – August 16th (Three weeks)

Class F: July 29th – August 23rd (Four weeks)

There are several programs you can choose according to your own schedule: from three to eight weeks’ programs start either in July or August.

II. Course Introduction       

A. Class placement

The Summer Program mainly offers language lessons for three levels’ language learners: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Each level may be further divided according to specific conditions of the learners, for instance, the beginner level may be further divided into Absolute Beginner, Intermediate Beginner, Advanced Beginner, and so forth. Class divisions shall be done according to the results of the placement test. Each class consists of approximately 15 students and beginner class less than 5 shall be closed.

B. Class Arrangements

Course content: Each level has Reading & Writing and Listening & Speaking courses, as well as Chinese culture courses, twice a week, include Experiencing Chinese Culture (involving calligraphy, Chinese painting, Chinese music, paper cutting, and so on) and Chinese Kung-Fu.

Course schedule & objectives: Each class hour, we will learn one lesson and students in beginner, intermediate and advanced level will learn around 10, 20 and 30 words. After this program, normally they can pass HSK1, HSK3 and HSK4 respectively. Some students in advanced level could pass HSK5.

The above teaching materials are co-edited by Zhu Zhiping & Liu Lanmin, and published by Beijing Normal University Press.

D. Assignments and Grading

1. Each teacher will assign written or oral homework, in-class dictation, in-class quizzes, etc. according to their class requirements. Scores on these assignments make up the Assignments grade.

2. Grading structure: Attendance 10% + Participation 20% + Assignments 70%. Our grading system is based on percentage points, which can be converted into another grading system according to the special requirements of the students’ home universities.

E. Extracurricular Chinese Culture Courses

Two cultural elective courses are offered in this summer project, and students can take them voluntarily. If there are more than 10 students in one class, we’ll open the class, or the class will be closed. Tuition fees will be paid separately.

Eligibility

1) Healthy foreigners who are willing to observe Chinese laws and regulations, as well as the school regulations of BNU;

Between 18 and 60 years old;

2) Students must hold the medical and accident insurance during their studies at BNU.
