Bachelor1. Introduction
Abbreviated to BTCSOL, the Bachelor of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, is for overseas students in China. The undergraduate degree programs are designed to cultivate our students into professional talents who can use Chinese as a second language and actively participate in fields such as education and cultural communication with their international and interdisciplinary knowledge and awareness.
2. Cultivating Objectives
We are dedicated to cultivate foreign students into someone of high cultural accomplishment, high Chinese proficiency and relatively complete Chinese cultural knowledge, a good ability of Chinese literacy, Chinese teaching and cultural communication. All these make them apt for engaging in careers such as Chinese language teaching, Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges and cultural communication. Education institutions, administrative agencies and media organizations are all ideal places to show their talents.
3. Cultivating Plan
(1) Academic Year
Four years of schooling. Those who complete their studies according to the requirements of the training program will be awarded a bachelor's degree in literature from Shandong University
(2) Cultivating Mode:
Focusing on both the learning of language and the learning of professional skills, we mainly expose students to Chinese language learning in their first and second year and to learning of professional skills in the last two years
(3) Credit (Period) & Courses
The total credits are no less than 140 credits, and 1 credit corresponds to 16 hours.
※Compulsory courses: Chinese Intensive Reading; Spoken Chinese; Chinese Listening; Chinese Reading and Writing; Chinese Listening and Speaking; Advanced Vocabulary; Advanced Grammar; Chinese Overview; Introduction to Chinese International Education; Ancient China; Modern Chinese; Ancient Chinese Literature; Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature; Principles of Education; Educational Psychology; Case Analysis and Teaching Design In Context of Chinese Classroom; Classroom Teaching Observation; Chinese Cultural Experience and Talents.
※Optional Courses: Chinese Martial Art (Tai Chi); HSK5 level Tutoring; HSK6 level Tutoring; HSKK intensive Training; Economic and Trade Chinese Reading; Economic and Trade Chinese Writing; General Theory of Chinese Textbook; Chinese Idiom Interpretation; Essay Writing; Mandarin Chinese Pronunciation. (Note: There are 10 professional optional courses that contain 20 credits in total. If you take no less than 5 courses and 10 credits, you will meet the training requirements.)
(4) Graduation Demands:
I. High proficiency in Chinese listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; competency of oral Chinese communication and written expression that serves for career requirements: reaching the new HSK6 level of 180 points or more, or HSKK senior level of 60 points or above.
II. Mastery: Basic knowledge of pedagogy;
Basic theories laws of second language teaching; Basic principles and corresponding teaching methods of Chinese teaching;
Effectively organizing teaching according to different teaching objects and objectives;
III. A comprehensive grasp of Chinese cultural knowledge, Chinese cultural connotations;
An in-depth comprehension of contemporary China's national conditions;
IV. Cultural interpretation and communication competence;
Good skills of intercultural communication.
V. A broad international vision;
Understand and respect the diversity of culture;
The ability to carry out cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries;
Upon completion of the study period, students will be awarded a graduation certificate of Shandong University, but only when the student meets the following requirements:
Adequate credits and grades required by the training plan;
Required practices, fieldworks and a qualified dissertation that passes the graduation thesis defense;
After the deliberation and approval of the school degree evaluation committee, the candidate will be awarded a bachelor's degree in Teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma and above.
2. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC ".
3. Physically and mentally healthy.
4. Applicants under 18 years old (Per September) should provide a letter of guarantee for their guardian in China (notarization required).

3. Language Certificates
- English Taught: IELTS with an overall score of 5.5/6.0 or TOEFL IBT 85 (different for each university)
- Chinese Taught: HSK 4-6 (levels and minimum scores are different for each major and university)
4. High school diploma (for bachelor degree) and Bachelor or Master diploma (for master and doctoral degree), hasn’t graduated students should provide an official statement from your high school or university as proof of graduation (Pre-Graduation Statement). (bit.ly/PreGraduationLetter)
5. High school transcripts (for bachelor degree) and university transcripts (for master and doctoral degree), page sorted in 1 file. Please contact the school to get ‘1 sheet’ kinds of transcripts. (bit.ly/ContohOnePageTranscript)
6. 2 (two) recommendation letters from your teachers in high school (for bachelor degree) and two university professors (for master and doctoral degrees) along with letterhead and stamp from the school. Please also include the email and phone number of recommenders.

8. Additional requirements that apply vary from university to university, for example:
- Entrance Examination / Interview.
- Financial Statement (from Bank).

Note:
- Documents number 4-6 above, MUST be translated into English / Mandarin, and legalized by the school or you could use the services of a sworn translator.
