PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

 

The two-year English-instructed master’s degree program in Chinese Society and Public Policy is a full time program, with five different program options, that provides rigorous training in sociology and social policy, covering a broad range of topics from sociology, anthropology, social policy and demography. By choosing this program students will get the opportunity to take courses taught by some of China’s leading sociologists and be part of an academic environment that prides itself on being on the forefront of sociology & public policy research. The program provides an excellent opportunity for students with little or no Chinese language skills to develop a deep understanding of China in the modern world.

The program is taught at the School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) of Fudan University. The School is one of the global strongholds in the teaching and research in sociology and social development studies. The SSDPP has over 60 fulltime faculty members. Majority of them received their PhD degrees from overseas universities such as Harvard University, LSE, Princeton University, University of Chicago, Duke University, University of Washington-Seattle, Chinese University Hong Kong and so on. Its international cooperation extents to such partners as Harvard University, London School of Economics and Political Science, Columbia University, UC Berkeley, University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, University of Oslo, Lund University and many other. Ten percent of the School’s students are international students, from the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, France, the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, etc.

Eligibility

Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary passport, be in good health, have attained a degree (Bachelor’s degree or above for Master applicants, Master’s degree for Doctoral applicants) and meet the language requirements.

Application Materials

1. A photocopy of the passport Photocopy of valid passport identification page. Passport must be an ordinary one and be valid until Sep. 30, 2021. Applicants currently residing in China also need to provide a copy of the page containing a valid visa or residence permit.

2. Diploma of the highest degree conferred or proof of impending graduation (for applicants in their final year of study).

The document must be original or notarized copy, and should be attached with notarized Chinese or English translation if the original one is not in Chinese or English.

3. Transcripts of the highest degree conferred.

4. Two recommendation letters

The referee must be professor, associate professor. The letter should be in Chinese or English and include the referee’s signature and contact information. If the letters cannot be uploaded online, applicant may contact the referee to send the scanned letter via email to the school or department applied.

5. Personal statement

It requires above 1000 words for master applicants. The language should align with the one to be taught with. The content should include (but not limited to) study and work experience, academic achievement, expected research proposal, and career plan after graduation, etc.

6. Language certificate and score report (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.).

7. Applicants who apply for the scholarships have to upload documents below.

(1)Completely filled Foreigner Physical Examination Form The form can be downloaded from DOCUMENTS at http://iso.fudan.edu.cn, and should be filled out in Chinese or English, the report is valid for six months. Applicants currently residing in China may submit Residence Permit or Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card in substitute for Foreigner Physical Examination Form.

8. Catalogue and abstract of published papers, award certificate or other documents that proves academic ability (not compulsory)
